Symptoms
- Infection at two phases is black leg and soft rot.
- Back leg-
- Black lesion appear on the base of the plant .
- Systemic and browning of infected tubers.
- Yellow appearance of the plant.
- Finally the plants wilt and die.
- Soft Rot-
- Rot and collapse of tubers.
- Soft, reddish or black ring appear on the infected tuber.
Preventive Measures
Avoidance of excess irrigation, provide proper drainage and restrict nitrogen dose to minimum (60 kg/acre). Harvest the crop before soil temperature rises above
28°C.
Description
- Soft rot of potato causes very high losses in storage depending on the value of the crop and the severity of the attack.
- In India, average incidence of soft rot is estimated at 5-10%.
