Sowing

  • 1. By using nursery seedlings:
  • Use well decomposed coco peat as medium.
  • Raise the seedlings in portrays having 98 cells.
  • Sow one seed per cell. Water regularly twice a day.
  • Use 12 days old healthy seedlings obtained from shade net houses for planting. 2. Direct sowing:
  • Seeds can be sown directly in pit in the main field.
  • Five seeds can be placed in each hole and keep only 2 plants after 15 days.
  • Seeds are sown 1 inch deep with the pointed side of the seed facing down.
  • Seeds start germinating after 7 days.

Land Preparation

  • Ploughing method - Plough the land 1 or 2 times based on soil type.
  • Apply 40 kg neem cake before last ploughing.
  • Mix the following in field, and keep it in open air for 10 days for proper decomposition- FYM- 3 tons Composting Bacteria- 3 kg
  • Spread the above mixture over soil and run rotavator to the entire field making the soil as a fine tilth.

  • Prepare raised beds of 120 cm width at an interval of 30 cm.
