It is very important to test the quality of water used for irrigation, as poor water quality can harm crops and reduce yield. Water testing helps assess the chemical composition and suitability of water for different crops, helping in better farm planning and higher productivity.

How to Take Water Samples for Testing?
From Well Water -
If using motor pump: If water is drawn using a motor pump, let the motor run for 10–15 minutes the day after water has been used for irrigation. Wash the bottle with this water and then collect a 1-liter sample.
If not using pump: If the water is not pumped, stir the water using a bucket the next morning after irrigation. Discard the first 10 buckets, then collect a 1-liter sample.
From Other Sources -
When collecting samples from rivers, canals, or lakes, take the sample from the middle flow, away from the edge or shoreline.
Precautions While Collecting Samples -
➔ Do not use metal containers for sampling.
➔ The glass or plastic bottle used should not have previously contained any medicine, pesticide, or chemical.
➔ Wash the bottle multiple times with clean water only - do not use soda, detergent, or ash.
➔ Send the sample to the laboratory within 24 hours of collection.

Key Points to Note -
