Brinjal is a resilient crop that may be cultivated in a variety of soil types. Because it is a long-duration crop, it requires well-drained fertile sandy loam soil that is well-suited for cultivation and yield. Light soils are ideal for early cropping, and silt loams are ideal for high-yielding clay loam. The pH of the soil should be between 5.5 and 6.6 for optimum growth.

Brinjal farms should be irrigated on a regular basis to keep the soil moist during freezing days. Brinjal cannot withstand water logging, therefore avoid standing water in the field.
